Safer local trading: what to decide before you meet
Local trades can be a great part of the hobby. A little structure before the meetup can reduce misunderstandings and make the exchange safer for everyone involved.
Agree on the exact items first
Confirm the card name, set, collector number, language, condition, grading company and grade when applicable. For sealed products, confirm the exact configuration and package condition. Photos can help, but inspect the actual item before completing the trade.
State whether cash is involved
If a trade includes cash in addition to cards, agree on the amount in advance. Avoid changing the deal at the meeting unless both people are comfortable walking away.
Meet in an appropriate public place
Choose a well-lit, public location during normal business hours. Many collectors prefer card shops, cafés, or other busy venues. Tell someone where you are going when meeting a person you do not know.
Protect your personal information

Walking away is always an option
